How to Have an Unrecognizable Glow Up

Spread the love

There was a point where I looked in the mirror and thought:

“Why do I look tired even when I’m trying?”

Not tragic.
Not terrible.
Just… dull.

My skin looked flat.
My hair felt crispy.
My energy was weird.
And honestly? My confidence showed it.

I used to think a glow up was just makeup and better lighting.

Nope.

A real self glow up starts when your body begins working with you instead of against you.

This post is basically everything that helped me look more alive, healthier, shinier, calmer, and honestly more expensive-looking without becoming a completely different person.

Some of these things sound random.

Seaweed?
Buckwheat tea?
Carrot salad?
Slugging with Vaseline?

But together?
Magic.

This is my full ultimate glow up guide with beauty rituals, foods, supplements, skin care, confidence habits, and weird little tricks that genuinely made a difference for me.

My Biggest Glow Up Realization

The people who glow the hardest are usually doing three things:

  1. Lowering inflammation
  2. Nourishing themselves deeply
  3. Becoming more confident in small daily ways

That’s it.

You do not need perfection.

You need consistency.

And protein.

Honestly… probably more protein than you think.

My Favorite Glow Up Foods

The Foods That Made Me Look More Alive

I noticed the biggest difference when I stopped focusing on restriction and started focusing on adding nourishment.

That changed everything.

Here are the foods that genuinely made my skin brighter, my face less puffy, and my energy way more stable.

Salmon

I genuinely think eating salmon regularly changed my face.

Not overnight.
Not in a TikTok-filter way.

But my skin started looking calmer and more hydrated.

Salmon is packed with omega 3s and protein, which are huge for a healthy glow.

I usually eat it baked with lemon and herbs.

Simple.

Honestly, I think salmon does more for me than half the expensive creams I’ve bought.

Seaweed

I know this sounds crunchy.

But seaweed is one of my favorite underrated glow up foods.

It contains minerals your body actually needs.

I started adding roasted seaweed snacks and seaweed salad into my week and noticed:

  • Less bloating
  • Better skin texture
  • More energy

It also makes me feel like a glamorous sea witch, which helps emotionally.

Carrot Salad

I became obsessed with carrot salad after seeing people talk about it online.

And weirdly?
It helped.

I do shredded carrots with olive oil, lemon, and salt.

Sometimes apple cider vinegar and black sesame seeds.

Carrots are rich in beta carotene, which can make your skin look warmer and healthier over time.

Not orange.

Relax.

Just less ghostly.

Vegetable Juices

Fresh vegetable juices made me feel noticeably fresher and I would honestly say these are the most important ones in the list.

Daily natural pressed juices made at home really, really, make a difference.

Especially:

  • Carrot
  • Beet
  • Celery
  • Spinach
  • Ginger

My favorite combination is:

Carrot beet juice with ginger

It makes me feel like I suddenly care about my life again.

The ginger gives it a kick and the beet helps circulation.

I swear my skin looks brighter after a few days of drinking it.

Protein Changed My Face

I know everyone says this.

But eating enough protein genuinely changed my appearance.

My hair improved.
My nails improved.
My face looked less tired.

I love turkey because it’s easy and filling.

Some of my favorite protein meals:

  • Turkey bowls
  • Salmon rice bowls
  • Eggs with spinach
  • Greek yogurt with blueberries
  • Cottage cheese with nuts

When people ask me how can I glow up, my answer is honestly:

Eat enough protein before buying another trendy serum.

My Glow Up Grocery Staples

Here are foods I constantly rebuy now.

FoodWhy I Love It
BlueberriesSkin-friendly and easy snacks
SpinachMakes me feel healthier instantly
Goji berriesSweet and antioxidant-rich
NutsGreat for skin and hair
Black riceMakes meals feel fancy and filling
Sweet potatoAmazing for glow and energy
PumpkinCozy and nourishing
DatesGood snack when craving sweets
GheeMakes food taste incredible
SeaweedMineral-rich and satisfying
Grapefruit juiceRefreshing and brightening

I also became weirdly obsessed with black rice.

It feels luxurious.

Like regular rice went to private school. Try it with carrot and hard boiled egg. Delicious AND filling. I prefer it rather than white rice as tt acts as a whole grain with significantly higher fiber, protein, and antioxidants (anthocyanins). It also helps regulate blood sugar with a lower glycemic index (42 vs. 90) and promotes satiety compared to refined white rice.

Catalina Crunch Saved Me From Horrible Snacks

Listen.

I needed snacks that didn’t make me crash emotionally and spiritually.

I started eating keto cereal like Catalina Crunch for snacks instead of random sugary stuff and it actually helped my energy stay more stable.

Not saying everybody needs keto cereal.

But I personally noticed fewer cravings and less sluggishness after switching up my snacks.

Supplements That Actually Felt Worth It

I do not think supplements replace a good lifestyle.

But some absolutely helped me.

Especially during periods where I looked exhausted.

Collagen Building Peptides

THIS made my hair and nails noticeably stronger.

My skin looked more hydrated too.

I like adding it into coffee or smoothies and it tastes AMAZING.

Omega 3

Huge difference.

Especially for dry skin and dullness.

When I stop taking omega 3 consistently, I notice it.

Magnesium

Magnesium helped me sleep better.

And better sleep is honestly one of the biggest glow up secrets on earth.

No cream can fully replace sleep.

Astaxanthin

This one feels underrated.

Astaxanthin is an antioxidant that some people compare to an internal glow supplement.

I noticed my skin looked calmer and less irritated when taking it consistently.

Resveratrol

I started taking resveratrol out of curiosity.

What I noticed most was that I looked less “worn out.”

Hard to explain.

Just healthier somehow.

Spermidine

Yes, the name sounds terrifying.

But spermidine became one of those supplements I quietly kept rebuying.

I mostly noticed better hair quality and energy.

B12 If Deficient

If you’re low in B12, fixing it can make a massive difference in energy and appearance.

Especially if you feel tired constantly.

Always worth checking if you suspect something is off.

The Teas That Became Part of My Glow Up Ritual

Tea became one of my favorite self care activities because it forced me to slow down for five minutes instead of spiraling online.

Dandelion Tea

This helped me feel less puffy.

Especially in the morning.

Hibiscus Tea

One of my favorites.

Pretty color.
Refreshing.
Makes me feel elegant.

Spearmint Tea

A lot of people love spearmint tea for skin support.

I personally noticed my skin looked calmer when drinking it consistently.

Buckwheat Tea

This tastes cozy and nutty.

Perfect nighttime tea.

Anise Tea

Very comforting after meals.

Confidence Is Part of the Glow Up

This matters WAY more than people admit.

You can have perfect skin and still look uncomfortable in yourself.

That energy shows.

One thing that surprisingly helped me was using confidence flower essences.

I know some people roll their eyes at them.

But I personally found them comforting and grounding.

Even if it was placebo.

Who cares.

Confidence itself is attractive. I particularly love flower essences for this purpose. Learn more about flower essences in the post I made about them here.

My Actual Skin Care Glow Up Routine

This is where things got fun.

Because I LOVE skin care.

And I have definitely wasted money on nonsense.

So here’s what genuinely stayed in my routine.

Morning Routine

Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C made my skin look brighter and fresher.

Especially when my complexion looked dull.

I prefer formulas that feel lightweight instead of sticky.

Rich Thick Moisturizers

At one point I realized my skin wasn’t “bad.”

It was dehydrated.

Using richer moisturizers made my skin look healthier almost immediately.

Sometimes the answer is literally just moisture.

Cicaplast

I will defend La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 with my life.

This product helped my skin barrier SO much.

Especially when my face was irritated.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid

The Ordinary azelaic acid became one of my favorite products for texture and redness.

It gives this smoother, calmer look over time.

Night Routine

Stridex

People sleep on Stridex.

It helped keep my skin clearer without making me spend a fortune.

Sometimes the affordable products work best.

Use ONLY on active breakouts, it really dries the skin out, being a perfect ally to dry out the zones that are more oily or with a specific breakout. If I use the pad in the entire face, the day after it is peeling.

Copper Peptides

The The Ordinary copper peptides serum made my skin look healthier and more refreshed.

Not in an instant dramatic way.

More like:

“You look well-rested lately.”

That kind of difference. Important to note that this has the famous “argireline” which I also love, but I would recommend this for specific zones like forehead rather than the entire face.

Slugging With Vaseline

I know.

Sounds horrifying.

But slugging with Vaseline made my skin ridiculously soft.

Especially during dry months.

You do NOT need a thick layer.

Unless you want to look like a glazed donut.

Clove Water

I started experimenting with clove water after seeing people talk about it online.

It felt refreshing and soothing on my skin.

I like keeping it chilled in the fridge. Keep in a spray bottle and spray in the morning and at night (during Summer days), it’s like a mini lifting. Clove water is considered a natural Botox alternative because it is rich in eugenol and antioxidants, which stimulate collagen production, tighten skin, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. See the post I made on Botox alternatives here.

The King: Castor Oil

Castor oil can be your skin’s best friend. It works perfect at night as it is quite thick and it works amazingly well for dry skin, spots, wrinkles, expression lines and, basically, most of the times.

It’s like giving your skin a drink. I love it.

The Devices and Treatments I Actually Enjoy

Foreo UFO

The Foreo UFO is one of those things that feels unnecessary until you try it.

It makes masking feel luxurious.

Also helps me actually stick to using masks consistently.

Hair Glow Up

Your hair changes your entire vibe.

Completely.

When my hair looked healthier, I instantly looked more polished.

Hair Masks I Love

I love rich hair masks.

Especially from Redken.

Good masks make such a difference for shine and softness.

I leave them on while pretending I’m in a dramatic shampoo commercial.

Camellia Oil

Camellia oil is SO underrated.

It makes hair look silky without feeling heavy.

I also love using tiny amounts on dry ends.

Very elegant-looking finish.

My Weird Glow Up Habits That Actually Helped

These are random but real.

Walking More

People underestimate walking.

Walking improves circulation, posture, mood, and honestly facial puffiness too.

Quick Morning Workout

I swear a quick morning workout changes your whole energy.

Even ten minutes.

Especially if you struggle waking up feeling sluggish.

You do not need a crazy summer body workout plan.

Consistency matters more.

Better Posture

The difference between slouching and standing confidently is honestly insane.

Posture alone can make you look more elegant.

Sleeping Earlier

Nothing destroys my appearance faster than terrible sleep.

My under-eyes become historical artifacts.

What Actually Helped Me Glow Up Faster

Here’s the truth.

The biggest changes came from doing small things daily.

Not from dramatic transformations.

Not from punishing routines.

Not from trying to become someone else.

The real glow up happened when I started treating myself like someone worth caring for.

Comparison: What Helped Me More Than Expensive Beauty Trends

Expensive TrendWhat Helped Me More
Fancy detoxesEating enough protein
Complicated routinesConsistency
Harsh productsBarrier repair
Starving myselfBalanced meals
Trendy drinksWater and sleep
Constant shoppingUsing products consistently
Over-exercisingWalking daily
Hiding myselfBuilding confidence

Honestly?

A lot of glow up culture online feels exhausting.

I think the best transformations happen when you become healthier and more comfortable in your own skin.

My Personal Glow Up Checklist

Here’s what I’d focus on if I had to restart from zero.

Glow Up Checklist Face

  • Drink more water
  • Eat protein daily
  • Add omega 3 foods
  • Sleep earlier
  • Use sunscreen
  • Moisturize properly
  • Walk more
  • Stop doomscrolling at 2 AM
  • Fix posture
  • Reduce stress
  • Use fewer irritating products
  • Eat colorful foods
  • Stretch daily
  • Find hobbies again
  • Wear clothes you actually feel good in

That’s the real step by step glow up nobody talks about.

My Thoughts on Korean Glow Culture

People always search:

how to glow skin like korean

And honestly?

A lot of what makes skin look amazing is hydration, consistency, nourishment, and gentle routines.

Not magic.

Many people over-exfoliate and destroy their skin barrier trying to get “perfect” skin fast.

Hydrated skin always looks more expensive.

My Honest Opinion About Glow Ups

I think the best glow ups are the ones where you still feel like yourself.

Just healthier.
Softer.
More energized.
More confident.

Not unrecognizable because you erased yourself.

Unrecognizable because you finally started taking care of yourself properly.

FAQ

How long does a real glow up take?

Honestly?

Usually longer than social media says.

I started noticing small changes within weeks, but the bigger transformation happened over months of consistency.

Real glow up steps are gradual.

What is the best food for glowing skin?

For me personally:

  • Salmon
  • Blueberries
  • Carrot salad
  • Seaweed
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Spinach

Those made the biggest visible difference.

Does drinking tea actually help?

I think it can.

Not because tea is magical.

But because slowing down, hydrating, and creating calming rituals genuinely affects how you feel and look.

What helped your skin the most?

Barrier repair.

Seriously.

Once I stopped attacking my skin with harsh products, things improved dramatically.

What are the best confidence tips during a glow up?

Stop waiting to become perfect before enjoying your life.

Confidence grows through action.

Not through obsessing in mirrors.

Do workouts matter for a glow up?

Absolutely.

But you do NOT need extreme workouts.

Even a simple month workout routine or regular walks can improve posture, circulation, energy, and confidence.

Are expensive products necessary?

Not always.

Some of my favorite products are affordable.

Consistency matters more than owning fifty products.

Final Thoughts

If you take anything from this post, let it be this:

A glow up is not punishment.

It’s care.

It’s feeding yourself properly.
Sleeping properly.
Moving your body.
Repairing your skin barrier.
Laughing more.
Drinking your weird little hibiscus tea.
Buying the salmon.
Using the hair mask.
Taking yourself seriously.

That’s the real transformation.

And honestly?

People notice.
